1/8 1/4 Mile?

ok I am tiring to figure out what my car will run at the track i don’t know how heavy the car is but it the fount end was lighted up by the previs owner by turning the fount end in to Swiss cheese.
I would like to know what u guys think as ill be hoping to run this car at the track next summer.

Since know one has said........I say 12.9 to 16.0 in the quarter. Depends on your tune and many other factors. ;) How is that for a guess? Your gears are really tame.

If your build is targeted at a grocery-getter motor, that's fine. But you should know that if you want more, there's lots more potential there. I have no idea what the car will run, but the motor is choked down with intake manifold, cam, exhaust manifolds, stock converter and horrid gears (even after the change you mentioned). Here's how your combo looks on the DynoSim:

A change to Edelbrock RPM Q-Jet #7164 intake manifold, large tube headers and 224/230 cam (Comp 11-242-3) looks like this: (I tried 6 different cams and this one made the most tq and hp with your 9.5 SCR. The headers alone are worth 56 ft/lbs and 66 hp)....

That's pickin' up 82 ft/lbs of torque and 128 hp. (500+ ft/lbs of torque is nothing to sneeze at). This cam will work best with a 2000/2500 stall converter (very streetable) and 3.73 gears.

my guess is high 14's at ~85mph in the 1/4.... like richard said there is much room for improvement but remember there are trade offs between street car and race car and when you try to ride the line for both it can get very expensive and frustrating (don't ask how I know). Quickest, biggest bang for the buck will be a shorter rear gear (maybe around 3.90:1)... ditto on the headers and I'll trust techinspector's judgement on the cam.

A lot of people have tolled me the Voodoo 60203 or the Voodoo 60202 would be sweet with my set up shod have lessoned to them and not my one friend :( but i have to change that intake as for the exhaust manifolds that’s all i can do unless i pay 600+ for a set that wont fit right :mad:

i do have an Edelbrock Performer intake but the guy i got it from milled it all messed up like the back is narrow and the front is wider to the back will slid side to side. i don’t know if i can have my shop even fix it

Ok, guessing at 3650 wet weight, driver onboard and going off Tech's 330 horse number my (a bit better then a WAG) software sez with a good launch and hook, no spin should yield a quarter mile trip of 12.39 @ 105 and an eight mile of 7.89. Take that for what it's worth, free software and a lot of estimation, but probably within a few tenths....

Dave, that's a good stab... but sorry BBMonte, I still think you'll be mid to high 14's. I figure crank power 330hp then normally take ~15% loss for drivetrain but I figure an extra 10% loss since you won't get out of 2nd gear or just barely in 3rd before the traps leaves you around 250hp to the wheels. I was assuming 4000lbs... math says you'll be about 14.6 @ 92 (9.4 in the 1/8th) but I think your 60' will be slower than ideal with the tall gear so figure an extra tenth or two. Lets also assume you're at sea level and it's 68*F with 20% relative humidity..... okay I think I'm getting a little too deep now :LOL: I stand by the high 14's but my early mph estimate was too low. We should start a pool!

I have to agree with skids on this one,Only because of my experince with heavy metal. I ran a 71 Charger that weight 4200pds. I ran a 440 that had been worked over real good. It had 600hp. 410 dana 60 w/posi, good set of traction bars with N50 ties. Torqueflight 727, with shift kit and 3400 stall.
It was all I could do to get in to the 12's. I don't want to rain on any parades
BBmonte it takes alot of cubes and alot of hp to get heavy metal rolling.
I can't see any thing less then at least a 14 or a 15. Like Tech said in some other threads with heavy cars its all about building big torque. This was in the 1/4 mile. Sorry Kurt

Well I am not looking for an all out drag car. But I think i did mess up on my cam. :( So ill look in to getting the Voodoo 60203 or 60202 and getting some 3.42 gars instead of the 3.23 I will look at and fix my intake or get a new intake.

Man, that's gonna be a slow BB..... A few decades back I had a stock '67 400ci Firebird, 400 automatic, slightly reworked Q-Jet and headers...Ran 14.00's first time out, with some tuning and slicks went 13.70's.----- Can't understand why that big block won't be building enough torque to at least equal a stock 400 Poncho?????????? More recently, about 7 years ago, a .030 over 460 in a 3400 pound Torino, small cam and headers with a 3310 Holley that would run 13.40's all day long with slicks.......What's up with the chebbies, anyhow?????

I would personally go for a 3.73 rear gear, not a 3.42 in your sittuation.

↑↑↑↑ I would go with 3:73 gears and when you get the feel for getting it off the line you might see a low 14 sec. pass.

3.73 seem to much i would like to be able to drive on the thruway to go to see family.

I agree 100% - if all goes well 14's are possible. BTW - 14's in that type of car is nothing to be ashamed of....
