Corvair box question....
Looking for a steering box and see that a reversed Corvair box would be ideal......my concern is that these boxes look "WEAK". I'm running a steel 29 Model A four door on a 2x3 x.250" frame. Car will have an iron head Big Block 454 with a 4 speed....Will this box hold up or should I look at other options?
Thanks!
Tom

The Corvair boxes are too puny for much of anything bigger then a T-Bucket with a SB engine. Recall that the original Corvair was light in the front with a total car weight of about 2300 to 2400 pounds.Dave W

You might get by with a cast iron box, but I wouldn't run an aluminum one on a car over 2400 lbs. Might be a little iffy at that as corvairs had a weight distribution of about 40-60. You would do better using a vega box.theres no foo like an old foo

A friend had one in his 34 Chev Master sedan. Turning circle was much too tight for my taste. Not the best choice for a steering box in a mid weight car.Bob
