Prep for a deck lid over 1965 Ranchero bed.

Hey Guys;
I was thinking of running some flat bar around the inside top of the bed.
This way I can make a little lip up to keep water from getting in to the bed.
Especially right behind the back window where it is sunk back in this should keep debris,
Water and other junk out of the bed. What do think about this? Do you think this will work?
Just an idea and wanted to get all of your input on this!

What are you going to make the lid out of Kurt??? Ideally it would have a lip that will fit in a channel built around the box...with some drain holes so that it doesn't retain water... Probably should consider a seal of some sort, too, if you want it to be water tight....

Hey Dave;
The lid it’s self I was just gonna buy from around the corner.
They’re pretty cheap, you take your car over and they measure it and build to suit
your car. My thing is that there is sheet metal sticking strait up in the air all the way around
the bed. Now normally the chrome trim would cover this up.
So I’m trying to figure out what I should do, The chrome trim will still go around the back side
of the roof . Any ideas? Thanks Kurt

oh, the vertical lip on the box???? I cut mine off and welded the seam shut on the '67. Smoothed it out nice, Kurt.

After you cut the vertical lip off, did you weld some thing on top
of that? Sheet metal or flatbar or just a bead weld then grind it down?
And did you go clear around the back window,What would be best?

I'd put a piec of 1" wide 20 ga. over the split, same thing I'm doing on the rear window openings where the window seated in on the Bronco II... It will add a bit of strength....that and the fact that I just don't like doing butt welds on sheet metal.... On the Bronco II, by losing the lip I even managed to drop a bit of weight as well as strengthen it.... Best of both worlds. Granted, not a significant weight loss but if you can't find anymore places to shed 100 pounds, then find 100 places to lose a pound!!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:
