What year and size is this Chevy six cylinder?
Picked up a six cylinder up for a project and can’t figure out out what the heck it is other than a 6 cylinder. Here’s some pictures of the casting numbers along with the serial number off of the engine near the distributor.
And what do you guys think you the rod and main bearings??
Any help would be appreciated….joeLast edited by TooMany2count; 09-17-2021 at 07:23 AM.

And what do you guys think of this fiber timing gear? Supposedly this is a low mileage mid 70s six cylinder that I got. Thank it would be OK to reuse?…..joeLast edited by TooMany2count; 09-17-2021 at 07:21 AM.

I didn't realize those things didn't have a timing chain. I'd change it just because. Cheap insurance.1 Corinthians 1:27

I thought about changing the cam gear because it’s fiber but it looks so good and still is so sharp with virtually no wear on it that I figured I would ask. And you’re correct it’s cheap insurance…Donate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE

That main bearing doesn't say "low miles" to me... If you want an idea of the clearances - get some plastigage and torque the fasteners down then remove the caps to read the "squish"
In our neighborhood, 2 blocks down the hill was a gas station that (to me) all the cool car guys hung out there. 32 coupes, 33 & 34 Fords as well, a sweet 56 Ford Beach wagon that was setup gasser...
