lost gas

hello all.
hope everyone is doing alright.

the problem that I hav is my 64 dodge 440 w\ 383 4bbl, after it sits over night or for a few days, it is very hard to start (no fuel) after it cranks and cranks then it fires up and runs like it should. I was thinking that it may be vac at the tank drawing the gas back to the tank? I don't see any fuel in the intake so I don't think that the carb is leaking down. Any ideas would be very helpful

if it has a holley carb on it sounds like a bad power valve .that will empty the fuel bowl

no it doesn't have a holley on it. it hase a 1406 w\ electric choke and i have checked the choke several tmes and it is good to go. I was also thinking that maybe the gas cap was a non-vented unit and that was the problem?

shouldn't the fuel pump have a check valve built in?

park the car back the cap off and see what happens if you have one fuel line with no return to the tank the car would try to suck in the tank and not run good if not vented

you know I didn't think of that and I'm not sure if it does or not, from what I can remember some of the old style pumps did not have one and some did. anyway I'll have to check to see if it has, and the pump is new Ihave on the engine. I know that don't mean that it's good or not so i'll check,

Easy cure is to install one of the inline fuel filters with a check valve that will not allow the fuel to drain back when the engine isn't running. I also use them on the vent lines for the rear end on go fast cars, lets the pressure out, but won't suck dirt in...... NAPA store sells the filters here locally........

yes I agree that will probable cure the problem and I will go ahead and install one very soon, I would just like to know before I replace the filter and you guys have been very helpfull and I thank you.
