How to Identify Brakes?

I need some help. I bougt a Fiberglass 32 last fall. It has disk brakes all around with A Ford 8" rear end but Chevy engine.

How do I know what year/make the disk brakes are from? Chevy or Ford and about what years???? They are the smaller stock/standard type, not performance aftermarket. The rear is lugged with 4.5 lugs with 1/2 inch threads. The front is 4.5 lugs with 7/16 threads. Not sure if that matters.....

The casting numbers on my rear calipers are "0709" in small numbers then then "5" and "388" in large numbers.

Put up a pic of each brake type, somebody will recognize them and be able to id them.

The seller, if he was the builder should have supplied you with all that info......Thats the problem with us dang hotrodders........LOL

Bucs, if you can't take a pic and post it as suggested, try this. I know from your other posts that you've had the wheels off trying to find proper backspacing, so the next time the wheels are off, pull a brake pad from each caliper, take them to your local auto parts store, I'll bet he can match them up for you and tell you what year and model they fit. Just another suggestion.

Thanks guys. I will have the wheels off later this week So I will take some pics. The seller told me they were chevy on front and ford on back.....I think. Not sure of years or anything though or which was which:o

I figured I could just go on the net and research the numbers stamped on the calipers. Guess not. Ha!

The first picture would appear to be a standard GM disc brake... Not sure, but probably the one they call a "metric" brake, came on the little Monte Carlo's, Cutlass, etc. in the late 70's, early 80's... Rear is a GM too.... Anyway, a really common brake, most any parts store should be able to Identify the parts as to year or era specific, and get you what ever parts you may need.

Same front brakes came on S10 Blazers etc too........real common.

Those rears look a lot like the larger Monte Carlo 73-77 etc front brake calipers adapted to the rear........also came on the pickups and probably Impalas etc....may be why its a 1/2" stud.......Are they 4 3/4 or 5" blot circle?

The front and backs are both 5 on 4.5 bolt patterns.

Doesn't matter, rotors are available aftermarket with a vaiety of bolt patterns that will fit the width of the GM calipers, as are spindles and axles.....
