27 chevy suspension
Hi everyone! I am a new member that is starting to build a hot rod out of a 27 chevy 2 door sedan. The question I have is: does anyone have experience about whether the steering and X- member out of a chevette will work for it?

27 Chevy X member
Hello, I can appreciate what you are taking on here. I have done a 32 Chevy Sedan and am now building a 31 Coupe. Lots of wood to replace.I don't know if that crossmember will work or not. What I did was bought and installed a Heidts Super Ride IFS for a 34 Chevy and it worked on my 32. I would think it would probably work on the 27. As a matter of fact I have a brand new, never installed Superride crossmember going on E-bay tonight or tomorrow. They are spendy but the ride is awsome. Later.

Chevette stuff is too spindly for a rod. MII is the minimum, and I don't think much of it either! Why not put a Chev pickup straight axle with a disc brake conversion under it?

While I've not done a project like yours, I have had good experiences with front suspension kits from Fatman Fabrications http://www.fatmanfab.com/
They make several "universal" kits from basic to highly modified based on the Mustang II components. They will work with you and have a great technical staff as well.

front end
Hi there
I have a 27 chev 2 dr sedan like yours,i stayed with the original frame and used a speedway 4" dropped tube axle mounted on the original spring configuration.A reversed corvair box fits the frame well with little modification.I am running a 3.4 95 camaro v6 (60 degrees)so i dont need the side room for a small block or have to alter the firewall. If you plan on a fendered car this is an easy conversion.Don't discount the 6 cyl it can produce some nice hp and you have a little different car than everyone else. You can also use stock manifolds,2 lefts work well.My car handles well and the front end is nice and light, hope this helps cheers wayne
