ford 9" with moser 31 spline axles is leaking oil inside the drum brake!!! need help

the axle in my 9" rearend has moser 31 spline axles with sealed bearings with a o ring on the outside of the bearing to "seal" the axle when installed in the housing.
I am 99% positive it is the o ring leaking without having had a chance to take it apart yet. if the o ring is damage what would cause it? where can I get the correct size o ring to replace it?
if the o ring is not damaged, but is leaking should i put a bead of sealent in the houseing where the o ring seats? or should I just put a new o ring on, clean the housing end up good, oil the o ring & just reinstall the axle with no extra sealent on it?
is it very comman for this type of axle bearing with a o ring to start leaking . if the o ring looks fine what else could cause it to be leaking ? any suggestion or tips to make sure it doesn't leak. rearend has less the 2,000 miles on it since rebuild and new axles. thanks for any help!!! I don't want to have to do this again any time soon.

Couple questions first.... Is the rear end possibly overfilled, and does it have a good vent system???? The only time I've had a leakage issue with the O-Rings is when the rear end is a bit too full, or the seal was damaged during installation.... A light coating of wheel bearing grease on the outside of the bearing and O-Ring during installation is usually sufficient.

Good time to bring up this question. Is there any merit in putting a thin coating of RTV on the inside housing surface where the bearing and seal ride, then installing the axle?

could be your o rings look at your axel housing your bearing bores could be cut or nick up clean them with some 180 grit and put new o rings in if cuts or nicks in the bores fill them with RTV just be for your put the axel back in

How is the axle seal?? they are easy to screw up with the bigger splined axles--then with an overfilled housing you'll get a leak

Sometimes the welder gets in a rush and will distort the housing end when he shortens the housing tubes

the o ring and the sealed bearings should stop the oil but if the axel is bent or a very bad narrow job it could be taking out the wheel bearing and leaking

YES, IT HAS A FACOTRY STYLE VENT TUBE, i MAY HAVE OVERFILLED IT?, IT AS A FILL HOLE ON THE PUMPKIN, FILLED READEND UNTIL IT CAME UP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FILL HOLE,

THE READEND I HAVE HAS THE LATE STYLE BIG FORD ENDS, DOES ANY OF THE CHAIN AUTO PART STORES CARRY THIS AXLE BEARING, OR WILL i HAVE TO GET IT FROM MOSER?

Since you are in Indiana how close are you to Moser's? Maybe take it over there

Is your bearing bad?????did it fit tight into the housing?
Are the axle seals good? Who narrowed the housing? Did they use alignment jigs???


there are lots of things that could cause it to leak, so be a little more specific about the housing and any and all modifications

Where the ends new? or cut offs from a stock rear end?

I've ruined brakes more than once on my driver. It was the lack of axle seals in
the housing. Even cleaned and used silicon once on the orings. Nothing fixed
it until axle seals were replaced.

you have some thing more going on i have used that set up with out any stock seals i use the oring s and the sealed brearings no oil in the drums
