Mustang II power steering conversion
I have had MII manual steering on my 37 Ford since I put it on the road a couple years ago, but I have grown tired of having to wrestle it. It's fine on the highway, put turngin and manuvering around is not much fun, especially when I spent so much money getting the best of so much other stuff. I have a 351W engine.
What I'm looking for is recommendations for pumps and other components. A GM Saginaw pump and a Ford one are about the same price, but the pulley is much cheaper for the Saginaw and it's nicer looking. There are hose kits for Mustang II power rack to "GM". The main question is mounting brackets. There's one in Summit for GM engines, and I wonder if I can make it work on my engine.
Any advice or suggestions about what to do?Andy

I have a Saginaw unit on my 34 and a MII power rack. I use a stock Chevy 350 mounting bracket, but an after market bracket may work as well (like an Alan Grove unit). Mine is mounted low on engine (below the Alt). If you use a GM pump remember to get a adjustable pressure valve to alleviate the greater pressure put out by the GM unit. There are several available from Summit, Jegs, Heidt's, Speedway, etc. You could also consider a pump with a remote reservoir if space is a problem.Bob

bump
Started this thread a while back and decided to revisit making the conversion in time for the summer. Just wanted to see if anyone had anything to add.
Currently, my alternator is low on the driver's side and my compressor is low on the passenger's side. The alternator won't be tough to move higher, if it comes to that.Last edited by bulldogcountry1; 01-07-2011 at 06:11 AM. Reason: added info
