rear end type
Hey all, what are you guys using for a direct swap for a rear end for a 1930 ford sedan? Like to get a good width to minimize costs of narrowing etc. Looking for a ford 9" or 8.8. the wagon and ranchero 9" are getting hard to find and expensive over here. some suggest the explorer but i was concerned of the significant pinion offset. will be mating it to a turbo 400 and buick 401 nailhead. . street use don't need anything too crazy.

Don't let the pinion offset bother you unless there's some component or sheetmetal in the way that would interfere with the driveshaft being on an angle going to the back. The offset will help to "work" the joints as long as the motor/trans is placed in the car with the crankshaft perpendicular to the rear axle.

Thanks. I ended up with a mustang but it's too narrow at 59-1/4. I channeled dropped the car pretty low. It looks like I need something at about 63" wheel flange to wheel flange. What are you guys using in a 30 Sedan channeled and Z'd???

If you need something around 63 inches, look at the big Fords, Mercs and Lincolns

We used one once out of a Chevy full size van. It allowed the sedan body to go right to the ground without touching the insides of the tires.
