I know mallory ,and msd are just a couple brands and I have both of them allready. I am looking to buy a dist from one of the local parts store. This is for a daily driver suburban that I am going to do a rebuild on the engine, so I might as well install a new dist.. Just need a new "stock" dist. I also have a new high performance ign. module and coil (MSD) just need a good base. Is Dorman a good brand?
use a gm HEI stock dist?
Concur with Pat -stock HEI is hard to beat for a daily driver.
Rescue an HEI from the boneyard and rebuild it yourself. That way, you know it's done right.....

Dittos to what Glenn said, Tech. I haven't messed with an HEI in years, but had (have in one of those boxws out there) a writeup similar to that; having it on a word file is much easier. Thanks. ;)
I went with a summit brand dist. . called the dealership and they wanted 550 for a new one :whacked: local parts supply have them for 99 dollars but can order you a better brand for 200 dollars. Summit has their brand that has a cnc billet housing for 230 dollars.
Man , these dist. are pretty expensive even though its not a HEI. just the housing with the computer control conections.
Summit brand. I've ordered several HEIs from Summit and no problems.
Most recently, I got a new HEI from ebay for the nova's 250. Dunno who made it, but it looks good and runs. $85 delivered
