My 29 tudor Flathead instalation??

I could use some advice on motor mounts and radiator placement. the motor mounts i used for mach up look terrible and the bottom hoses on the radiator are killing me. if i place the radiator where it needs to be for the bottom hoses it sits way to high, if i lower it where it looks good there is nowhere to run the hoses. here are a few pics

the blue engine is for mach up only. any advice/pics would be greatly appreciated

Fab some tubing in a roughly Z shape, use short lengths of straight hose on the engine and radiator sides of it. You'll end up using 4 clamps each side, but it works. Copper or stainless would last longer than mild steel.

i was thinking something like that could restrict flow. its worth a try. i was also thinking of fabing something out of rectangle tubing that would fit between spings and axle. i think your idea is better

Been a while since I played with a flathead, but I remember they used to use truck water pumps because the mounts were more suited to a hot rod frame. Also, you have your mounts right up against the water pump, and you would actually have rubber bisquit type mounts in between, which would lower the frame portion of the mount.

Since you are going with this engine you might want to pick up Vern Tardels book on building traditional hot rods. I plan on getting one when I start building a car around the flathead I have stored away. I think it addresses mounts, water pumps, etc.

I don't know what you are using to locate the height of the engine in ehe car but it is sitting several inches higher than most A/V8's I have seen.
The mount pad should be very close to level with the top of the frame rail and then the mount biscuit on that to space it up another 1 1/2" or so.
That should put the water pump outlets just above the crossmember.

On a more serious note, hanging a suicide suspension on a stock style front crossmember with frame horns you run the risk of bottoming out the axle at the frame bottom, that's why most suicide style frames typically end behind the axle line. Looking at the one picture with the engine in from the direct front you're not very far below the frame, and you don't have all the weight on the front end yet (radiator, headlamps, coolant, a portion of the rest of what you'll mount on the rest of the car). I don't know what spring rate you've got, but I'd expect at least two inches of upward travel, perhaps more, especially on uneven surfaces where the axle will pivot at the spring centerline rather than straight up and down on both sides.

i have the engine high because I'm trying to keep the oil pan from dragging. i was thinking of lowering it a couple of inches so that the transmission does not take as much of what little leg room i will have. and as far as the font end goes i am going to add some springs. if i bounce on the frame horns now it bottoms out. i like the ride height just need to add some stiffness

any ideas or pictures of 4 hose radiators on a model A?

Are you going to try to keep the top of the grill level with the cowl?
If so you will be working with a pretty small radiator and flattys aren't known for being particularly easy to cool.
I'm guessing you will be using an electric fan.

yes i want the radiator even with cowl (looks terrible above cowl) i was thinking something like. fabing rectangle tubing or something to run underneath axle orrrrrrr maybe a radiator in back of car??????

I'm not sure this is the book Don was referring to, but Vern Tardel is listed as one of the co-authors.....
