Electrical component?
Hi everyone it's been awhile since I've been on the site, but I just started working on my 72 Chevelle again and ran into a question. I'm trying to clean up some of the engine bay wires and I was just wondering what the object in the picture is? I would greatly appreciate the help and thank God for this site =]

It looks like a relay, but not really sure which one, too many wires for horn
-
Thanks for the suggestion, it's up by the wiper motor area. Hope some more people can help out.

One way to find out quickly is to disconect one of the wires and see what doesn't work. Horn, headlites, wipers etc.
-
You could just start tracing some of those wires too , and see where they go too
-
Thanks guys for all the suggestions, also if anybody has a wiring diagram for a 72 Chevelle I would really appreciate it if you could post it up. I bought a wiring diagram for my car off eBay but it has all these old diagrams and isn't really helping.

Thanks DennyW for the help, you've always helped me out on my topics. I'll see if I can trace the wire from the horn to it.

Another question I had, was I was looking at the wiring diagram from the book that I have, and in it it mentions a TCS SOL and the IDLE STOP, the motor that's in the car right is not the original motor and I think these parts are missing therefore these wires are just hanging out in the engine bay. Can I cut these wires or what should I do about them?

Thanks again DennyW for all the help and suggestions.

the tcs is transmission controlled spark its a nox device retards the timing in the lower gears to reduce oxides of nitrogen (nox) they also had an electric idle solenoid it was a stepper motor when the it poped out and you would adj. the idle with it that was so they could run a vary lean idle they used what is called the lean idle rpm drop method of adj. the idle d.i.y. er mechanic did not understand the sys.so the unplugged the wire and set the idle so on a hot day they couldn't under stand why when they went to the store turned the ign of went in and came out with a six pack they thought the motor was running backwards but it was actually dieseling thoes were the not so good old days of primitive pollution devices and sealed idle mixture screws believe me you don't want either of those devices .......ted

Hey guys I have another question, I'm working on the car right now and noticed that the wire coming from the distributor was just twisted with another wiring coming out of the firewall. I outlined the wire in the picture. I was just wondering what would be the correct way to connect the wire to the electrical system.

Bump. Hey guys just wondering if anybody could help me out with that last question, any help would be greatly appreciated.
