I am installing a trunk latch solenoid similar to the one in the picture. Aluminum cable crimps came with it but I want to use a screw type cable clamp like the one pictured here. Can anyone tell me what they are called? I have seen them before, but don't know the name

Pat, they are called Cable Stops. Even motorcycle and lawn mower shops may carry them. Search under those two words on Google, or call your local MC shop. Maybe even Ace Hardware in those fancy bins they have of odd stuff.

I can usually go to McMaster Carr and find anything I want, but this part eludes me. I know I've used them before and tried "thimble", "collet" and everything else I could think of, just couldn't come up with it. Scroll down this page and see if there is anything else you could use in place of it....

If push comes to shove, a trip to a large, well-equipped Ace Hardware will probably produce them. Just explain to the oldest guy you can find what it is you want and he probably knows right where it is.

Local hobby shop will have a boat load of these in various sizes as well.
I have always heard these called "PIN CLAMPS" most I have seen have a small ball bearing inside them that the screw bears on and provides the clamping force without distorting the cable.

VW accellerator cable clamp. Found at any buggy or VW parts shop.
I made my own out of a "cutoff" grade 8 bolt, the body only, no hex. Just drilled it out on a lathe and threaded all the way through. That way you can use "two allen screws, one from each side and two allen wrenches when you tighten it. We have raced with the same one for ten years.
Wish I woulda read Evolvo's post before I ran all over town to the Hardware Store, Bike Shop, OSH and finally to the auto parts where I found this package. And here is the finished installation. Notice the similarity between the first post picture and this one. They are both installed in red '53 Studebakers! Works great! I left the old manual cable in place as a "just in case." Imitation is a sincere form of flattery...
