O2 sensor bung

I am getting ready to install the bung for the O2 sensor and had two questions.
1. There is a ridge on one side of the bung. I assume this side goes in the hole, correct?
2. Where do I install it. I am thinking it should go in the exhaust where the two sides of the engine exhaust tubing converge. I have fabricated a single exhaust system.

1. I would thread it on the sensor to be sure.
2. At or after the converging point is fine, considering the length of your leads in the location if it the harness is already made.

Is it is the standard O2 sensor on a 92 Suburban.

It is already in the harness but I think I will need to extend the lead no matter what I do.
