Hi Guys,
I'm rebuilding a 33 Dodge that my husband and I put together about 25 years ago. It was built to look like the American Grafetti coupe with a 327 and a 32 Ford grill shell. I.m going to replace the transmission and the front end. I've torn out the interior and started sanding down the paint.

Ground some of the rivits off the cross member.
The front end is out. I'm going to bolt in a temporary ladder bar and remove the cross member.
Put some more primer on the back, just playing around.
Well, I found the problem with the front end I was going to put under the coupe. It's a Chevy!!!
Well, that won't work.
Back to square one.
The cross member is out. Got the front of the frame braced up good.
Took the steering box off this morning and the column is out.
It looks like I will be taking the body off the frame. I really didn't want to do that.
Christmas has kept me from working on the car. Waiting for some parts to arrive. I'll get back to it in a few weeks.
Hey Speedy, try a Volare front end, should measure up pretty good for you. Unless your looking for a straight axle, any Dodge truck up till 48 have great
4" drop axles, there's even an aftermarket disc conversion..
The front end arrived. Now to put all those pieces together. Going to have a smaller gas tank made. Has anyone used hi build primer?
So I'm anxious to know what kind of "front end" you purchased!?

I went with Fatman's MII. They make it to fit my 33 Dodge frame. My friends who are helping to install it, have installed a few from them and and say it is the way to go.
What are you planning on doing with yours?
Today the Gustafson brothers welded the cross member and the top hats onto the frame. A real mile stone.

Picked up a 700r4 transmission and the drive shaft. The gas tank is ready to go back in. Maybe Perley will show that trick about shortening the drive shaft.

The coupe is aalmost ready for primer.
The body is done. Now to get it ready for paint.
That is looking cool and have you decided on the colour yet?
Black for now. Maybe some yellow flames. It was yellow for a long time though. I might miss it.
Hey Marcia,black should look cool also and as I haven't talked to you before,welcome back to the best Club on your computer. Have you freshened the motor up also or was it running sweet without touching it? Do you have the fenders if you decide to change it's appearance again??
I had the engine rebuilt. It had been sitting for about 8 years. I think the 327 is about the best sb made. I also had the 350 turbo tranny rebuilt and put back in. I think I'll be happier with that than the 700r4.
I'm going to put the abrieviated rear fenders back on, but not the motorcycle fenders. I do have them if I change my mind. I don't think I would use full fenders.
Speedy....have used the PPG brand of hi-build primer on my wagon. I am using PPG epoxy primer for doing all the primer work. It gives you a good base and bodywork will adhere to it as well. The hi build is being used in areas where the bodywork is finished and will do the block sanding. The hi build fills in all the little scratches .
What happened to your pictures in post 21? They were there, but now just a big box with a little tiny box & red X in the corner saying "Attached Images", or is it just on my computer??

The firewall is polished aluminum and not very polished.
Do you have any pictures of your 33? what are you using for a motor and front end?I really like the lines on the mopar coupes.
To be totally honest, I'm not sure exactly what front end is under the car, other than it has Mustang II rack and pinion. The Front end set up was installed years ago when I was just a child, and the car still belonged to my uncle. I recently traded a '70 Chevy SWB pickup for the coupe. The coupe has a 350/th350 in it at the moment. The truck I gave up had a 327/th400 that I'd love to have back for the '33, but don't see that trade likely to happen.
I'm an admitted novice when it comes to many things hot rod related. I generally learn as I go when I get a project and begin working on it. This coupe represents the first time I'll be doing any significant labor on a car of this vintage, so I have much research and learning to do with regards to suspension set ups and things like that. Any work I've done on street rods before has been limited to some body work, and of course a LOT of polishing!
Very nice!. You're lucky to have what looks like a solid body to start with. You could throw a cat through the cab of mine when I started. The full fendered look is nice. I never had the fenders for mine. The rear fenders are glass.
The coupe now has black paint and the wiring is done. A lot of small changes and a few big ones.
Coupe is looking great Marcia.
