Speedometer
Hi to all and Happy Holidays - Merry Christmas. I have a Borg Warner T-5 Transmission out of a '91 Chevy S-10 in my Essex. I would like to have a speedometer. Can someone (anyone) tell me how to do it, what to use, whatever? I have the dash insert (instrument panel) from the S-10, but the back of it is all printed circuits etc. and would have to be installed as a unit. I prefer to have only the speedometer. I've read that in order to use a regular speedometer I would have to buy a conversion unit and that they're expensive! I know I can buy a new electric speedo from a variety of sources, but they are also expensive. I'm not cheap, just poor. Thanks.Too old to work, Too poor to quit.

You need to use an electronic speedometer. Don't bother with the original dash unit, it is probably multiplexed and runs through the TIPIMM or is CAN/BUS.
The electronic to mechanical converters are about $300.00
Any electronic speedo will work, New Vintage, Autometer, VDO, Omega Kustom. You can get an electronic speedo for under $150.00, or look for one on ebay.

At least you can get something with a period look:

Sorry for your loss of friend Mike McGee, Shine. Great trans men are few and far between, it seems. Sadly, Mike Frade was only 66 and had been talking about retirement for ten years that I know...
