What year were catalytic converters required on chevy trucks? I'm hoping I don't need one for my 83 that i'm rebuilding. thinking about going without it anyway if i do.

It will depend upon the state you live in. Here in Utah, if it came with a cat from the factory, you have to have one on and functioning.
