newbie with a v8 swap question

I am putting a 350 chevy in my 1950 dodge wayfarer. I have the engine mount bolt 5 inches from frame on left side and 3 inches on right side to clear that monster steering box. with my engine being 2 inches off center, am i looking at any future problems with drive shaft,vibration or anything? I put a 350 in my 1927 dodge last week and that was the easyest project ever. thats how it is with me, if i have one thing go real easy the next thing is 20 times harder. I have looked all over the web and havnt found anything on a sbc swap in a 50s mopar with out a camaro or nova front clip. I dont want to clip it.

No, not at all. You can move the motor as far one way or the other as you want to as long as it works out with other parts, like the transmission at the transmission tunnel. The only thing you absolutely MUST DO is to keep the crankshaft/transmission main shaft centerline perpendicular to the rear axle centerline.

offsetting an engine is common. I know I did it in my s10 v8 swap a few years ago.. just keep you[r pinion angle reasonable. as well as stated before.cool dodge

For yrs I thought the same thing about center lines.Recently some 4X4 Astro guys proved to me that isn't the case.That as long as you have the same angle from the tranny tailshaft and the rearend pinon,they can be offset because of the u-joints.I swore they where wrong and I was given a ride in one that was set just like that and it was as smooth as silk,no vibs,no problems.That set-up was like at for yrs too.Well I decided I was way too old to go back for a refresher in geometry.:LOL::LOL: I just accepted it as a set up that works.

Thanks for the tips. i did a s10 v8 swap along time ago and i must have got lucky because I didnt measure nothing, it was off set a little bit but I just mounted the tranny and had the shaft cut and put it in. I didnt pay any attention to the angle of the shaft, plus thats back when I used to drink to. Its alot harder doing it with a old dodge and sober LOL

Yes they are, but they're not lolly-gagged in relation to the centerline of the car. If you install the motor/trans perpendicular to the centerline of the rear axles (parallel with the pinion), then you will have two cancelling angles in the driveline as viewed from above and all will be right with the world.
