Lamp/Bulb Types

Getting a wiring harness in hand has brought several things to light that I had not previously considered or realized. One is on the headlight inserts I picked up that have integral turn signals at the bottom of the lense - Snake Eye's by AutoLoc (mine are like this, but the bottom lens section is clear). I have realized that I do not have parking lights, a fact that I had not considered until I was reviewing the harness conductor assignments. The amber bulb is a single element bulb for turn signal only and it is quite small, measuring 3/8" diameter x 15/16"L. The rubber socket for the bulb is 1/2" OD, and the whole assembly is 1 3/8"L. The assembly plugs into the base, friction fit. On our '07 Jeep the headlights have a similar function, but the bulbs are full size, 1157/3157 type plug bottom.

Does anyone make a dual element bulb in this small size? Should I just forget about parking lights, since the "safe" approach is if you need parking lights headlights are more visible? I have spent a couple of hours searching through bulb info but those guys speak a foreign language.

Did not get any help yet, but I think I may have an answer. Speedway sells a neat turn signal insert that fits around a standard H4 bulb. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Turn-S...ulbs,2376.html It is a single element bulb that I can wire that to be a "parking light", giving the entire headlight an amber glow for the park function, and the turn signal is separate in the dedicated section down below. Anyone see a problem with the approach? I can joint the three ground conductors in the headlight bucket, so it will only be two added wires in the conduit.

I recently went through this same issue.

I looked for a long time and was surprised at the difference in price of the available conversion head light bulbs. I was looking for a "more stock" looking seal beam conversion and did not want to spend $175 and up. I purchased mine from C.W.Moss (Vintique's retail store). They were about $40 each, have high and low beam headlights with H4 bulbs and a parking and turn signal bulb socket added inside the reflector. The parking and turn signals are "very bright" with the headlights turned off, and are "acceptably bright" when the headlights are turned on.

I did not run conduits, and was able to get all the wires to run through the hollow headlight mounting bolts.

I appreciate the answer. I checked out CW Moss' Accessory catalog and did not see a unit like you describe. I'm "OK" with the units I have, but a more stock sealed beam look would be better for me, too. Having both park & turn features is a big plus. Can you give me a pointer to where you found your lights?

Guess I'm spoiled, because I live only three miles away and can visit their store. They had a display of the modified lightbulbs in their retail showroom. I would suggest you call them directly.

LOL, I read their description and it's not very clear is it?

Yes, these are the same units I have in my car, but listed for less than I paid. I think the confusion is due to the fact that only two wires come out of the amber bulb socket. I think I remember they were red and a yellow wire. The socket has "a common" ground, so one wire was for the turn signal and the other wire was for the parking light. They had a small instruction sheet included that was very informative, had they included that in the listing. I guess that is one thing I like about Summit and MSD web sites is they have a pdf of each parts instruction sheets and all dementions.

I may well be ordering a pair of these. I made my decision process a bit easier late today when I was picking up the various pieces of one headlight assembly from the floor and the SnakeEye unit slipped from my grasp and broke the clear lens. I was/am not a happy camper! To add insult to injury, the units are AutoLoc, but listed/marketed by Speedway as "their brand", sold only in sets of two. I may be able to convince them to sell me one, but one is $80 plus shipping, and I still don't have all of the features I want. Yours solve my problem, and for a $20 savings for the pair.
