Keeping the cooler clean

Ok guys -- and gals, just to set the scene. Living in the northern land of "Shovel or Swat" and approaching the bug season, you can surmise the dilemma. What is most advantageous and simplistic method of screening out these critters? Have used a few of the fine mesh types, and attached with velcro but cannot say I am satisfied. Any better way to correct this constant cleaning problem? On the return home from a cruise it is a fair assessment as to top speed by the mill thickness of splatter, but hey the gauges do work. Wondering if anyone has found a better cure? Thanks for any input.

Rain-X has been a tool of choice elsewhere, just never came to mind for the mesh. Amazing how solution to problem can be right there in front of you. oops?? As to the lamp placement - thats something to ponder. ha :)

Al Show - Difficult to restrain "Unis" behind any moving vehicle. Yearns to gittyup and go most of the time, does not appreciate a tight rein. :)
