making my shifter.

I got a tailshaft-mounted shifter from Lokar, out of their "seconds" bin. It has a 16" shaft.

First, I bolted it to the tranny and figured out my length and my bends.

Now, I am going to cut a perfectly good shifter. I need to add 21 inches to it. I want the shifter at eye-level...RAT FINK BABY!!!!

I need to taper my cuts on both pieces so the shaft is welded all the way through, not just the outside.

I have a very heavy 60's skull shift knob to top it.

I told my wife that if I ever broke an engine mount, the shifter would knock her out:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

I will post a pic when it is done, and I get a damn camera.:CRY:

madgrinder Know what you mean. I extended my lokar from 26" to 31" and the shift knob is right under my mirror. When my wife drives it she can barely reach the top.

Ed Roth would be so proud!

I think my next project will be a chopped and wicked-channeled model A coupe. I will leave the roof unfilled (open) and put normal-height seats in it so my head and shoulders come through the roof. A long steering column with metalflake wheel and a very long, crooked shifter will top it off.

It needs a blown hemi and a four speed for posterior's sake.

How would I make one.I really want one in my 64 Fairlane.Still column shift.How do you get around the detent button in the original lokar knob & be able to use your own custom knob?? I want to used either a skull or a old 50's microphone I picked up.

aThat is the same question I have how to get around the BUTTON on the top. If I new better I would have gotten a Gennie or the new B&M which was not around when I bought mine. Ed ke6bnl

I called Gennie Shifter today.Guess they moved to Denver from out here in SoCal.Hoping to pick on up close by.They don't use a detent button on theirs.No problem installing your own knob.Hurst also makes a cool street-rod style shifter,though only 19" long & it only fits th250,350 & 700r4(Of course,you can get anything for a chevy!)Pricey too,$325.00!! I haven't heard of the B&M shifter you mentioned.Do you know the part # or where I might get one? Anyone know of any other streetrod shifters made out there for a Ford C4? I think a floor mounted shifter would work best for my application.Thanks for any help-Michael
