What year did white lettered tires come out ?

I don't know the answer and it's not real important; just being curious for a "period correct" type of deal.

I never would have guessed all that. I was thinking more like the mid sixties was the first white lettered tire.
I learn something new everyday, especially at Club hotrod.

I wouldent think that the white lettering was done that early in years but, white walls go through the same prosess to make them white.
