Any IDEAS?: I am restoring a 1969 chevy truck. I pulled the i-6 out and am about to install my 350. but i wanted to make the engine compartment look better. SHould i sand it and paint it. if so what type of paint or how should i do it to make it look good on a budget?
Also, how can you get rid of the rust on truck without paying someone to sandblast. I have a 60 gal air compressor, just not sure what tools to use i.e sander or what is the best thing for rust
paint it black if you`re not going to go thru the trouble of matching it to the exterior color .. if the rust is only on the surface sand it off and cover it with rust inhibitor and go from there .. if it`s eat thru you need to replace the metal .. those trucks look good colored all over ..
I agree with Hoss.........either take a wire wheel on a drill or a random orbital sander and remove the rust and then primer it. Eastwood sells a very nice underhood black semi gloss paint.
hey hoss. did you add a brake booster to that truck? my doesn't have one and was wondering if i could add one
If you don't have a brake booster that would be a good sign that the truck doesn't have power brakes.
My '68 came with four wheel drums and no power. It was both feet and a prayer to get it to stop. I found a '72 in the scrap yard that had power brakes. Everything was a bolt on swap. Including the front discs. What a difference. Well worth the time and effort.
Do you have disk brakes, adametree? If not then adding a booster is not really needed as the drum brakes tend to provide their own power assist by their design.Quote:

yea rsspears, i guess so. I didn't realize the differnce between power brakes and drum brakes.
