Got a bad Reman Master Cylinder today.

Gotin the Old 72 Vette the other day to move it out of the way and the brakes went straite to the floor. Even after pumping and pumping them the peddle kept going straite to the floor. So I went down and picked up a remaned Master Cylinder today.
After installing it, I noticed the front brake line going in to the Master Cylinder was leaking. I put some tape on the threads and got it to stop leaking, but the thing I didn't like is it is theaded right up to the nut against the side of the Master Cylinder.
So I guess when they remaned it they cut the threads to deep for the front line.
So I called the folks and let them know what was going on and they said to bring it back in and they will replace it for me. Bad thing was they don't get it in till tomorrow so I could not get it done today.

they may have left out the brass seat or seat was screwed up. there is or should be a flare seat the flare on the brake line mates up with

yep the threads do not do the sealing on brake lines

Yep I knew that cffisher, Thats why I was supprized when the nut went up against the side of the Master Cylinder.
I was not sure if it was sealing or not because it was leaking from around the threads not the brake line tube it's self
in the center of the nut. You are probably right Pat, I'll take a good look when I pull it back out again tomorrow.

A Pat: Looked in there this morning the brass seat was in there.
When they remaned it they must have went in on the old threads and cut too deep.
The front brass seat was way deeper then the back brass seat for the brake lines.

Well I took that one back and got another Remaned Master Cylinder.
This one mounted up fine with plenty of thread still exposed on the brake lines.
And the best part is they don't leak after being tightened dowm like the first one did!!!
Now I just have to get the wife to pump the brakes for me so I can bleed the brakes.

I tried that once:(:LOL::( Bleeder open, sound of pedal retracting, "You didn't let off of the pedal, did you dear??":CRY: That's about when I started using the one-man catch bottle approach to bleeding ;)

Yep your probably right Roger,They will throw it right back up on the shelf for next poor slob.
The wife has helped me bleed brakes before so she knows how it's done
but she likes to act like it will kill her to help. Yes even though it's her car,

Had that happen with "help" before to. Now I pump the brakes,hold pressure on the pedal and use a stick jammed between the seat and pedal to bleed them when I'm alone.

Not dirrectly related to your particular problem, but..... I've head from what I concider reputable sources that reman cylinders can be bored up to .030 oversize, but that NO oversize pistons or seals are manufactured to fit these oversize bores. I only purchase new master and wheel cylinders now. just not that much more expensive as a rule, and well worth it for the piece of mind.
