Was rearranging the garage and happen to notice a defect in one of my spare engine blocks laying about.
Couldn't believe it..looks like a crack..about 2 inches below the deck surface..running parallel to the crank and cam..between the 3 and 5 cylinder...on the outside of the block.
Don't see any damage on the block interior.
Anyone seen casting flash this bad on an engine block.
Common sense says its a freeze crack,..but the raised surface has me wondering.

what block sbc or bbc when they freezs they heave up the jacket just under the thickness of the deck so about 1/2 just under the deck they crack i fixed them if a race block
Sounds like it froze to me.did it have water in it ? I welded one up on a guys spare race motor this spring in about the same place. He said I told my guys to drain that motor !
ever tell you about a guy that bust a race block about 4000 just the block:( i fixed it for him . i was not happy he just seamed if he could care less about the hole deal and i wanted to hang him I REALLY DID lucky for him i have no rope at the shopQuote:

yep that,s what you have . when i worked at the marine yard i seen some of that .they would rust up and the silt would work like bars leak and plug them up and the fact they never had and presure in the cooling alot of them never leak but would catch them doing a tune up or oil change
Easy enough to fix an external crack like that, but where else did the frost do some damage? Some places that crack are not accessible.
