What Are 'rhoads' Or 'roads' Lifters.
Hi again guy's. I'm back for somemore info. And I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to help me in the past. Especially 'Streets' Anyway has anyone ever heard of 'Rhoads' lifters. or 'ROADS'. Iv'e never heard of them, but this engine that I picked up, is suppose to have them. I was told that they where used because of the big cam that's in it. I was told that at idle and low to med rpm they stay kinda soft. And then at high rpm's they get real hard and act like a solid lifter. I guess it add's a few degrees advance for a little more 'poop'. It kinda makes sence to me, but I'm not sure. Thanks again

Well, they don't advance or retard the cam and they don't act like solid lifters at high rpm. They do reduce valve lift duration at lower rpms by bleeding off hydraulic pressure. At about 3000 rpm, they seal up and work like a normal hydraulic lifter. They increase low rpm vacuum, idle quality, and torque. Seems like something every car should have? What they do have in common with solid lifters is that they are noisy like solid lifters. That is the major drawback to the design. I hear Crane makes a lifter called a High Intensity lifter, it bleeds off a little bit at idle, but not as much as the rhodes, but it doesn't make as much noise either.

Rhoades vs Crane
Tech, Do you think the ticking would be to much for a knock sensor? I was also looking into those lifters, but what about the Crane lifters? Do u have any thoughts on them.
Thanks
Visited a family member at Dockery Ford from the time I was 1 year old through their ownership and then ownership change to Morristown Ford. Dockery was a major player in the Hi Performance...
How did you get hooked on cars?
