Iremember them very well. they'd block off a section of street in N. Syracuse and thats where they'd have the championships. Wide world of sports would be there and it was a drunken mess if i ever saw one. What a party! Teams would come from all over, i remember the Rinkydinks fro m long island were tough to beat. That was late 60's early 70's and the laws about public intoxication were looser and getting a dwi was unheard of. The street would be packed with people on each side cheering the firefighters on, we could reach out and touch the trucks as they went by. They'd have all kinds of crazy competition and at night the partying and food eating was amazing - N Syracuse was where the italians lived and there was food and beer for everybody! What a time we'd have! Things were simpler back then.
Ditto on the model kits! My best were lost when the Hobby Shop burned under suspicious circumstances....
