456 --- 9" spool
use clutch type they do not pop i have used many . on the grizzly lockers. i have one i a 35 spline one. only because that is the only thing i could find for that size axle spline at the time . i do use spools on the street full spool would be better no center pin . but hard on axles.
I still use the Detroit Locker, noisy as all get out but very dependable and always a positive hookup when you need it! The clutch type units are probably a lot more "civilized" for street use, but heck, I still like solid lifter cams and trannies with straight cut gears, too!!!!
if you pre load clutch load they hold up just fine for soft street tire cars. still have the same ford 4 spider unit been under all my cars never been rebuilt that.s has been over 27 years.i never busted second gear sprag in a 400 from letting off and getting back on the car and hitting second gear you can with a locker done it.to much roll out or engagement that.s the pop and click and hard on auto trans sprags if you making abit of power in a heavy car
They can scare the heck out of you! I had one in my 67 Mustang and every once in a while it would "un-load" in a turn and it felt like \ sounded like something exploded in the rear-end! After a dozen years of that I swapped in a clutch type, I guess I'm getting old..:LOL:
Thanks for the info I'm getting old to gone have to swap it out.
