Red light on tach won't go out.

I'm not very tech savvy and I'm sure there is an easy answer to this...I have an Autometer racing style tach in my street rod. It came with the car when I purchased it. For some reason the red light (it has both a yellow shift light and red light) won't go off. It just came on recently and stayed lit. Is this just a function of adjusting the shift point dial or is it something more complicated? When I turn the ignition on the red light comes on and stays on. As I stated, it just started doing this. It went off once when I was driving then came back on and has stayed on since. Other than that, the tach works fine. Any ideas what to do to get it to stay off? Thanks!

With light on I would tap it a few times to see if that helped. If not I
would double check all wiring. If still stays on I would look into getting
a new one.

If there is a different light for shift (yellow) then what is the red light for? Try to find the trigger wire for it.
In the drag cars the red light is oil pressure and goes out when you get above 10psi or so.

With engine running, move the shift point around

Any other ideas on this? I'm kind of stumped. A new tach like I have is about $279. The tach works fine except for the red light issue.

You might want to search for the type and model of the tach, that will likely take to a site and explain what the red light means. Most of the time the tach only ships with one light/ shift, you say you have two. The second one red is an add on and could be temp or oil warning, depends on how the builder configured it, you checked the oil? ojh mentioned it above and was a good suggestion for you to look into.

I agree with Pepi, what's the model number of the tach? Have you called AutoMeter to ask their tech's about it? Those guys were very helpful when I ran into some tach issues a couple of months back.
