Front Runner Options

What are some of you running for front runners?

I'm looking for 26x4.5x15

Go to Coker's site, choose "Select By Size", then "15"" and you can scroll down the options to find the diameter and profile you want. Some of them might by available from other places, too, but many of the old molds are owned by Corky now. I run a Firestone F560 145R15 Radial, at just over 24" diameter for the drop I wanted. Did a little homework.

Coker offers this tire: Would certainly give me a the old school look.

Mickey Thompson offer a DOT front runner too. One of their tires come in 8 ply.

Surprisingly M&H have a DOT front runner. This one has the look and performance that I probably need.

I replaced my rear Goodyears with Hoosier's Quick Time Pros.

Hoosier's front runners aren't DOT.

M&H's cheater slicks weren't tall or wide enough.

I'm not a fan of mismatched tires but black wall shouldn't be too bad.

Remember that if you are running a bias ply rear and a radial front, at speed you will get some shimmy. I had M/T on the rear and radial fronts on my pro street and it shimmied above 55MPH. I changed to a matching tread M/T front and solved the problem.

No I won't mix radials and bias.

I went with the M&H. They were the exact size I needed.

The 8 ply Mickey Thompson's would have been a better street tire, but I want to keep the track look of the car.

Hoosier dropped their DOT line after the SUV blowout fiasco. Legislation got passed and Hoosier declined to participate.

Hoosier's Quick Time Pros are DOT, but their web sites states not for highway use (except pro street) Their drag radial states the same too.

I'm not sure what the "except pro street" really means.

If you look at the Hoosier Tire site Hoosier Racing Tire - Tires Designed For Champions there's a section for "Race Tires" and a section for "Street Tires" which denotes their "pro-street tread pattern". Hoosier calls their street line "pro-street" to differentiate from their race only tires.

I did note how thier DOT tires are under Racing.

To me the excerpt you posted is crystal clear. Each sentence in their quote clearly states that it applies specifically to Hoosier's "Racing Tires", saying that they don't support using them on the street as they are not DOT approved. Their "Exception - "Pro Street"" points the customer to their second line of tires, using their "pro street tread pattern". Again, if you go to the Hoosier web page and look to the index on the left side they clearly differentiate between the two lines, one major heading "Race Tires" listing eight different sub-headings (drag, road, oval dirt, oval asphalt, etc); and the second line "Street Tires" which has one sub-heading, Pro-Street. Race Tires are not for highway use, but Street Tires are. Seems clear to me, but maybe I'm not reading it right?

At first I thought their word pro street meant a genre of car. I now see it means their street tire.

Doesn't matter. They're on the car. They look good. Probably the best traction available for the street and I have a DOT sticker on my tires.

Probably the best traction available for the street - Mickey Thompson has a similar tire. I just couldn't deal with the word "Street" in big letters on the side wall

Might as well put the word TIRE on there...... that is silly, who thinks of those things, not a car guy you can bet on that.
