Tom,
I just noticed your KS tag avatar and that Lakin is out by Garden City. While affected by the prices that old iron draws up in the NE where rust is a huge problem and out in California where demand has emptied most barns, out in rural Kansas the values are still lower and people understand "salvage value". Case in point, a friend who's into '49 to '52 Chevy's picked up an old '54 4-door powerglide donor car yesterday for $300. Rusted out floor, a headlight bucket gone, some old bondo work on a rear quarter but generally an old 4-door "beater" that needed air in one tire. The guy had bought it as a "pattern car" to be sure that his "good one" went back together right, and just wanted it gone. I stand by my "'less than $2000" for the value of the '36 as it sits, and for sure less than $3000. If you pay $5000 or more in Lakin you'll likely be the hot topic in the local cafe at morning coffee for a week.
I think you're right. I was actually thinking $2000 would be my top. As for the Talk of the coffee shop, I'm probably that anyway! :)
