14 in tires

Found a set of 4, 7 inch wide 5 spoke mags. What is the tallest tire I can get in a 14? I've been looking but there is not much of a choice now. I want some width on the rear, at least a 70 series. Coker is over priced. Any ideas?

Here's neat listing of tires by wheel size that 40FordDeluxe posted some time back - Tire Sizes From this it looks like a 26" OD is the largest made in a 14" wheel, and taking that 225/70R14 to Discount Tires Direct, there are indeed still a few out there, but not many - Tire Products - Discount Tire Direct

I've been looking at 14" tires recently also. I'm kind of in the same boat, I'm doing a truck with a fairly nice set if 14" wheels but it looks like 225/70R14 is about it anymore.

You can claim Coker is over priced, but compared to what alternative? If they're the only game in town and their price is unacceptable then maybe the choice of 14s needs to be revisited. I'm not happy about the price of tires either, no matter who supplies them, you can thank government over regulation for a good chunk of that, and they just imposed some more tire cost increasing "rules" this past week.

BTW, one way to save a bit on Coker stuff, if that's a choice anyone makes, is to buy from Summit. They sell almost everything Coker makes and over $99 purchase there's no shipping charge. Not huge saving, but a decent amount.

VHT, there's a reason that you've "found" a nice set of 14" wheels available. Just about everyone has learned, or is in the process of learning, that the availability of tires for wheels less than 16" has decreased drastically, and many tire sizes that were common over-the-counter purchases not very long ago are now "specialty" tires, only available from Corky Coker. The BFG P285/70R15's that have been a tire of choice for the back of highboy's are a perfect example. BFG stopped production due to low volume, Coker bought their molds, and he's now the only game in town for that size tire.
Your choices of tires for 14" wheels will only get worse as time goes on, not better, and pretty soon the only alternative will be to call Corky. Either look at some bigger wheels, or accept the supply alternative. Uncle Bob's advice to buy from Summit to save the shipping is good!

Tire Rack gives tire dimensions on everything they offer; tire diameter, section width, tread width, suggested rim width, etc. Very helpful stuff.

I wouldn't touch another set of 14" or 15" wheels again . . . ever. You'll lose that bargain price over and over again as you need new tires.

By the way, the only set of tires I bought from Coker wouldn't balance at all. I gave them away. He changed supplier from Chinia (I think) to Ukraine. This is not meant to be a blanket indictment of Coker tires. It's just my one time experience.

Jack, I chased a front end "pull" for two years, only to find that the Coker Firestone F560's were causing the problem. A new set (from Coker) were OK, but I was not a happy camper.

Back around 2007 I purchased a set of 15" white walls and steelies mounted and balanced from Coker and I couln't have been any happier. When I recently purchased the 15" Cragars for the Fairlane I had no problem finding plenty of tires in this area 50 miles North of Houston. Just my experiences.

I'd be willing to go $200 a tire for the big boys, at my door; and $75 a tire for the littles at my door, and you can keep all the money left over! That's $550 in play for only four tires! Don't spend all of your profits in one place!

Yeah, I was just playin' around with Em'. Coker bought the molds for both the BFG SilverTown wide oval 70 series, and the Firestone F560's so Corky's the only game if that's the size one wants to run. Don't think I'd seen Performance Plus Tire, but I got the tires for the '32 through Discount Tire Direct and managed to get the drop I wanted, but the rears are only ~9" wide tread vs 11" - a different "look".
