Impala '73 - New radiator

Hi Guys!

I'm needing a new radiator, the old one had a crack with the upper hose :


I therefore need a new one - i dont think an epoxy weld/glue will last for long :rolleyes:

There er lot of different ones, so which one to buy?
It's a SB 350, but original a BB 454. I planning on - someday - drop a 454 in, so the radiator has to be suited for that :)
I have an A/C radiator mountet in front of the normal radiator, and in internal Oilcoller in the old radiator

I don't want a low budget aluminium radiator, so i have looked at rock.auto.co.uk, but i dont know which one to pick, will the "Cheap" one be fine for me?

That looks repairable.

It might be worth having it serviced. My experience with old radiators is maybe one out of five is fixable. When the radiator is too far gone to fix I don't get charged: so I let them keep it as scrap metal for their efforts.

A little cleaning, acid, tinning and some solder-not epoxy weld/glue-----

Find a rad shop-------that's a easy fix and you can get the dipped/cleaned, rodded out-------probably cheaper than the shipping on a new one

I have got an offer from to different shop, it's about á 120 dollar.... I didn't mention i also had a little leak with my gear coolant - sorry :p

So a new one, and maybe i give it a try restoring the old one myself - when i find some more sparetime :)

Could this brass be a good alternative?

If you are going to be putting a big block in down the road, I'd install a good aftermarket aluminum radiator from Be Cool and be done with it.

It's sitting in my garage, know i just need some time to change it :)

To each their own, I don't care for the plastic tanks, they are prone to leaking and cracking after a few years of service.

Hi Guys !

Just to make a short update :)
I ordered the SPECTRA PREMIUM radiator, and recieved it last weekend.
It looks fine, and fit in the enginebay nicely. I had some problem loosing the old transmissions fluid hoses, but at last they came loose!

It's so nice, having a non dripping car, and cruise with a steady engine temp. all the time :)
