Brake caliper
I need to replace the brake pads on the front of my 36 Ford. Does anyone recognize this caliper? The truck was finished when I bought it so I don't know any of the parts used. It has a Mustang II type front suspension.
I removed the 2 bolts that seem to hold the caliper in place but it won't come off. There are 2 sleeves that go into the bracket that seem to be holding it in place. Anyone seen this before and know how to get the pads out?

With a little persuasion from a rubber mallet I got the caliper off. Still need to figure out what I have so I can get new pads. There's no marking on the pads.
This started with the wear indicator on the inside pad rubbing the rotor and squealing. Now that I have the pad out it looks like there's plenty of pad material before wearing to the rivets. Can I just bend the wear indicator a little and put it back together?

Looks like a common GM midsize for the '70-80s, used by the majority of aftermarket conversion kit manufacturers. Below is a pic of one I've got in a box somewhere, though pictured from the bottom you should see the similarity. I'm in the early process of moving into the new garage so don't know where it is to get a part number for you......if I find it before anyone else gives you a lead I'll post up.
As for bending back the noise maker that should be considered a "get bye" cludge. The pad is likely glazed enough that it may not be fully effective anyway.

That looks exactly like what I have. What's visible of the pads also looks the same. That will help natrow the search for replacement pads. Thanks.

You can get them at any auto parts store. 1978 to 1988 Chevy Malibu. That pad material looks thin enough that I would recommend replacing them.

hi - have you run your finger nail along the wear area on both sides of the discs to make sure their is no wear ridges ? sometime you have to get the disc's scimmed when replacing the pads.

1985 Monte Carlo pads from napa were a perfect replacement (same part number as the Malibu. I already had them when I saw your post.) The rotors look and fell fine. Since I'm this far into it I might pull them and get resurfaced anyway.
