Front Caliper hitting front springs

Hello everyone,
Does anyone have information on what type of calipers will work on a MustangII front suspension. My calipers have the banjo fitting coming out the back of the caliper and when I turn the wheels to lock position the brake line fitting are contacting the front springs which limits my turn radius severly and makes a "bonk" noise when I turn into a parking space or anywhere i turn to full lock left or right . I think I need the banjo fitting to come out the side on the top or bottom which would give me the extra clearance I need So what ford caliper will fit on the front end and have the fitting on the top?

You know, it's a funny thing, I'll bet there was not one Mustang II ever produced by the factory where the fluid supply line hardware hit the spring on a turn. It really pi88es me off to see a system on a hot rod that fails to operate properly, due to the ignorance of the designer. The person who designed this system should be doing something else for a living, something that would not be so critical as a malfunctioning brake/steering system.

You'll likely have to revert to a caliper that emulates the original MII piece.

Yes I agree, I think the calipers must be off somthing else but not sure what, thats why Im asking .. that being said looking at E-bay pictures of 78 mustang calipers the banjo fitting is on the top or bottom of caliper which would be correct. Can anyone confirm if there is a later model ford that uses the same caliper setup ?

Ummm Mike, how about using an MII caliper to squeeze your MII rotor ????

Yes that is where I will probably end up(but I dont want to really) but when I started this thread I was looking for alternitives for the MII caliper(very pricey now due to populariy), which is what I thought was what on the car after looking around on the internet some more I dont think that is what is on the car and I dont know what rotor is on the car either. I would like to source the calipers locally from autoparts store or salvage yard so I can return if wont fit .Anyone have suggestions on compatibility??

Have you looked at places like Speedway or Summit, Jegs?
Or how about Wilwood or Baer brake systems?

Yes 34_40 I have been reseaching all day looking around but they all sell a kit or some form of it and all the pictures are not clear enough to see if the banjo fitting is on the bottom or top of the caliper body not to mention when I call they are reluctant to help because im not using there kits and am just looking for free advise . I am looking for someone who has information on the crossover or compatibility of brake calipers on a ford front end .My frame was built to go with the kit but there is no information out there about exact components used nor can I just call and ask (they are out of business). And I would prefer to source the calipers from an auto parts store or salvage yard because if they dont fit I can take them back ,I dont want to repack and pay shipping and re-stocking fees involved with internet purchases.
I just want to know if I can use mid 80' mustang or Farmont or somthing that is plentiful and cheap!

May be wrong here but even if the Brake line fitting is not being hit by the spring WHY would you want to use your caliper as a turning stop.

would maybe if you switched sides of the car with the calipers would they clear?Right to left-left to right?

I mistakenly had mine flip flopped like that. The hoses were routed nicer for me but the bleed screws are on the bottom which makes it impossible to bleed.

Maybe the hose banjo end guide notch isn't orintated correctly? some pics would help!!!!!!!

And Charlie has a point too. The setup should be adjusted to prevent any parts from contacting the spring.

That's a really good possibility. It's hard to tell without looking at the car, but there is a real possibility that the rotors and calipers are not Mustang II at all. The original Mustang II used a 9" rotor and a lot of guys upgrade that to 11" rotors. Depending on the manufacture of the conversion kit the calipers could be almost anything.

The setup I'm running on my 37 Dodge uses 75-80 Ford Granada 11" rotors and 78-88 GM metric Calipers.

If it's a cheaper kit and the rotor is 11" with a 5 on 4 1/2 bolt (Ford/Mopar) circle chances it's a Granada rotor which might help you narrow down whose kit it is and the application of the caliper. If the rotor uses a 5 on 4 3/4 bolt circle (GM) then it's likely a GM rotor and again it might be a good starting point to narrow down the kit and what parts it uses.

Pull your calipers off the rotors (don't hang by hoses, tie them up with the bleeder on top, I use wire ties, throw a socket about the same width as the rotor and bleed them off the rotor and reinstall.

I guess I could have done that, I just put them on the correct way.

Ok ,since I cant identify where the calipers came from and I aint's buying new ones from speedway!!!. And no one can tell me what would cross over and work,I decided to modify the calipers to fit my situation. I machined off the back of the caliper that was hitting ( protruding boss on back of caliper )and moved the banjo fitting to the bottom of the caliper so as to give the needed clearance. Now the rack and pinion hit full stop before anything touches.
I will post pictues if i can figure out this system of uploading pictures to the web site, I cant find any info or instructions here ( it cant be that hard) but I cant get picture to show up in my gallery.:confused:
