Serious stuff!!

Thanks for the post, Bob. Whether geezer or newbie we all need the reminders on safety issues. I can't even do my own welding anymore, for years I tacked things together by just holding my hand over the weld to block the flash. I never bothered wearing safety glasses until a few years ago when my optometrist told me that if I thought wrap around safety glasses were a "big bother", just keep it up and I would find out what a "big bother" being totally blind was!!! Now the corneas in my eyes are so badly scarred I can't even be outside on a cloudy day without sunglasses. A boat ride on a sunny day at the lake even with polarized sunglasses is worse than Chinese water torture.

Oh yeah, on the long hair issue......Ever got your pony tail wrapped around the wheels on your creeper??? Interesting way to find out who your friends are!!!!

you are right scooter, but what you cant see is it goes straight to the lungs and stop up those little pores that you need for breathing. i was one of a few people that could work in a closed up shop all day with a motor running and it not brother me, i though it meant i was a little tougher, but now i wish it had given me a head ache or made me sick like most people so i would have opened the door or put in some tail pipe exhaust hoses, or anything instead doing what i did, which was nothing. :( :rolleyes:

My brother Rick has the exact same cannisters 24/7. He had worked for a floor sanding company in the 70's and an asbestos removal company in the 80's. Now at 49 he can't breath at all without the O2. He was macho and didn't use all the safety equipment that was available I guess. So, Mike, I feel for you and understand what your going through and know what Bob means about the equipment. :HMMM: :HMMM:

the problem with the whole thing is you cant see whats happening to your lungs and it takes 40 yrs. (in most cases) to show up and then its to late. :eek: :whacked:

Oh geez...I definately didn't need to be reminded of that...that is really painful, especially since ya can't move without making it worse...been there, done that, learned my lesson...I put my hair up in a bun when I'm under a car or truck now...:rolleyes: :p

As a Safety Inspector, I have to agree that this an excellent topic. I notice that no how many times I tell the guys at work to put on their PPE, There's always someone that thinks it won't happen to them, forget to put it on, or just dont want to take the time to go get it. Fortunately, I work with a group that is pretty good about wearing their PPE. From time to time I've been seen doing something less than smart like crawling under my truck without my glasses, or ie: A month or so ago, I was changing from a cut-off disk to a small wire wheel on my cordless dremel and did not take out the battery. It slipped and in trying to hold on to it, i turned it on. The cut off disk left a nice big scar on my leg. Cut it like butter.... I'm good about unplugging tools before i mess with them, but it really never occured to me to drop the battery out of that dremel. I do now .... Lesson learned ....
