Another way to go might be to take the bodywork from your truck and put it on another 3/4 or 1 ton frame, which has all the updated steering and brakes that ypou are looking for, say a 80s Chevy or GMC.
You should be able to find one with a bad body real cheap.Home Handyman Forum
