quadrajet rebuild
Just rebuilt the quadrajet carb for my jeep, # 17056528 Question...the secondary lockout lever...what exactly is this for? and when I go to open the throttle all the way it wil only let the secondaries open partially. I know that is what it is supposed to do, but what controls the stop so that it will open all the way? The choke lever does not move it, and the actual lever that stops the lockout from opening all the way doesn't seem to have anything to move it. I hope this is not to confusing, but I can take a pic and attach it to the thread if it helps..thanks..Paul

I thought it was the backwash of fuel that pushed it open, kinda like a reverse tidal wave.
No- it's Vacuum....Jim

How does the vacuum move the secondary lockout lever? If I manually move the fast idle cam lever I can get it open. There is nothing hooked up to the fast idle cam lever, it is free floating on the same shaft as the choke lever. Pictures coming.

I thought that it was to prevent the secondaries from opening, until the choke is completely off. Vacuum pulls the secondary air doors open, on top of carb. The secondary throttle blades will open, whether the doors open or not, if the choke is all the way off.
To adjust the door, there is a little screw and spring where the door is hinged, passenger side.

In our neighborhood, 2 blocks down the hill was a gas station that (to me) all the cool car guys hung out there. 32 coupes, 33 & 34 Fords as well, a sweet 56 Ford Beach wagon that was setup gasser...
How did you get hooked on cars?
