I have a 79 302 with the original Distributor, I have the oportunity to purchase a MSD 8582 Billiet for $50.00
Used about six months, looks good.
The original distributor has Vacume Advance the MSD does not.
The seller has extra springs and weights for the MSD.
Question is:
Am I going to have problems with a switch over?
No more Vacume advance is going to cause what?
How do I make the MSD wortk?
thats a good deal on the dist. craig but you will need a msd box to make it work (starting at 200.00 ) if it was mine and a daily driver i would wont a vac. adv. on it. its more of a race dist. the only timing youer going to have is base timing and total adv. those springs and weights are used to determine how quick your total timing comes in. :3dSMILE:Quote:

I do have a MSD 6ALN installed.
I messed up and put it on the kick panel inside the truck on the passenger side. That thing buzzes up a storm!
Gas mileage has gotten real important with gas in upstate SC at $1.90.
the mileage sucks right now anyway. I have a small cam in it and a 650 CFM Edlebrock carb. Aluminum intake and headers. I don't think the vacume is working up to par anyway. I have tested the diaphram and it is fuctional. Timing light shows it's working.
I can't put a whole bunch of timing into it, it starts to spark knock at around 12 degrees.
Timing is set now at 8 degrees, pulls hard, but the real kick is on the highway, the little 302 was bored 60 over due to 160,000 miles by me and my late Father in Law. I didn't do any thing other than a valve job on the heads. Do-Overs, I would have done some porting to open them up a bit.
It just looks GOOD and it's a $200.00 dizzy for $50.00.
If I loose a gallon a mile I figure I got 150 miles to use before the $150.00 difference is used up.

Actually, if your mileage dropped from 15 mpg to 14 mpg, you break even at 15,750 miles with $2.00 gas - not 150 miles.
15Mpg is pretty bad. NY is at $2.11 for low end fuel. At this rate, the gas prices are going to take more of a persons paycheck than House Payments!:HMMM: Unless someone managed to make a engine that uses a fuel thats widely available for .20 a Gallon;) :toocool:Quote:

$50.00 a barrel is a bit srong.
If we are paying $2.00, wonder what it is in Europe?
