I have seen 77-9 t-bird or 72-79 torino/ranchero front clips installed in 53-up ford trucks,I know torinos and rancheros had a option for a big block but I dont know about the 77-79 t-birds but they could even be the same frames. Jeff
Hey Mike, you could keep the stock frame and put an IFS on it. Kits are available. On the rear, a 9" with coilovers and a 4 bar set-up works great.
seen lots of mid 50's ford trucks w/chry torsion bar suspension under them, and from what I have seen, all you do is trim the frame & it sits down on it & then ya weld it up. Hell I even have one (torsion bar suspension) to get rid of CHEAP.....joe
Well Mike, you've picked just about the most popular truck to modify. As such, there's about a ton and a half of information out there and just about every kind of system has been tried. Get a copy of the Dec. 2003 "Classic Truck" magazine. They've got an article in there on engine/trans swap hardware for your very truck. There are all kinds of ads in there for various suspension systems/swaps. Contact the vendors for material on their's and study it. After doing that research you'll begin to form an idea of what works well. To tap on Joe's suggestion, there are several Mopar based products that have proven to be reliable and stout enough to do the job, and don't require the same level of "fussing" that a properly done clip swap would.
Mike. I have a Volre/Aspen ifs under my 53 F100, I like it fine. However, if I were doing it now I would use the Mustang II. For more info go to the www.fordtrucks.com site and view the front suspension threads. Great info from great group of guys. Joe
Mike,
My dad put a volaire under the 55 F100 we have been building. It gives the truck the right stance I wanted. Also I'll still be able to ride and spend the money when I get there and not on just getting ready to go.
