Mustang II Power Steering Rack
Thought I'd pass this on for anyone who happens to be running a car that was built with an original Mustang II rack (like my 37 Dodge) in case they need to change the power steering rack some day.
The PS rack on my 77 Mustang II started leaking so I figured I'd bite the bullet and just throw a rebuilt in.
I called the parts store this morning and was told that it was not currently available thru their supplier. I figured no big deal I'm not in a big hurry I just get one off E Bay.
So started looking on E Bay and was comparing suppliers on price and shipping when I saw one ad that said
"...This rack is perfect for any vehicle with Mustang II front suspension and does not work on an original Mustang II car......"
Seems the current rack being sold with the kits has the mounting holes on 15 1/2" centers instead of the original 16" centers the 74-77 Mustustang II racks use. All the racks PS rack I found listed were the 15 1/2" centers. One ad indicated they were 82-85 Mustang racks.
After checking with 3 other parts stores and getting the same "not currently available" answer, I finally hit pay dirt on the 4th and the rack should be in tomorrow.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
