the standard method of building rear end housings for race cars is the have the brackets main edge exactly parallel with the face surface of the housing (either where the ford 9er bolts in or the rear gasket surface on an dana or similar type housing) this gives you a surface then that you can indicate off of for measurements----------however remember that pinions aren't in the middle of the housing so be careful with the side to side location of where you mount them.
