Just jacked up the rod and the rear end can be turned freely while in park. Fluid level is ok. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?
Trans is late 70's early 80's and rear end is a posi unit out of a 79 Firebird.

Does the driveshaft spin too at the same time, or does it lock up?
Don
Did you spin just the tires or did you also spin the drive shaft? If the driveshaft spins while in park, you have a park pall problem. Pan while have to come off to find why the pall rod is not engaging. Could be something as simple as the detent has come loose or the clip came off the rod. Quite a simple find just messy to drain and look. Does it engage in gear like it should?
Driveshaft is locked up. Just the rearend is turning.
Pull the rear end cover and inspect.
