TH 350 help needed

A while back I had a problem with my TH350 no shifting out of first, a quick governor gear change and I was back on the road. Now its developed a new problem. I have reverse and 3rd gear. Tranny will not automaticaly shift back down to 2nd or first. If you manually pull it down it to first the vehicle will not go and locks right up like i slammed it in park. It doesnt feel like its in park when you try to go it more like your trying to power brake it.

At first I thought governor but if it was screwed up wouldnt it just stay in 1st gear like when the gear was shot?

Without having actually witnessed what is going on i would say it is possibly the torque converter or something inside the trans. I am not a expert but have had similar problems in the past. Hope yours turns out better than mine did, had to rebuild the trans and replace the torque converter.

i know on a ford when the guv sticks it also wants to take off in 2nd or high .. the problem began at the guv thats where i`d look again

sound like a stuck gov valve if so take gear off and remove valve taking note of direction it came out and polish it and reinstall and try it again.
