tips on replacing C4 front pump
well i tried it with the pan on but its in there tight. I pulled the pan and valve body tried to pry up on drum its in there real tight. I tried some heat lightly around the case but with no luck . I'm starting to soak it now with some penetrating oil maybe try it again in a few days after it soaks in a bit .

Denny there are no jacking screw locations would be nice though . The idea of the upside down wood tap might work , but will that disturb the inner drum and band enough to create a pain putting new pump back in .

Denny the tapping of holes hit me when i took pic i'm going to give that a try with the hose clamps to keep it even . Good ideas and maybe i'll heat the case abit to help relieve some of the pressure . Thank you but please stay tuned if i need a bigger hammer .

something may have to die in the effort .. as a last resort put the input shaft back in and flail it side to side with a big hammer .. may damage a plastic washer or brash bushing but it may break the pump loose .. and the front clutch drum will no doubt come out with it ..

Right out of my C4 manual - I hope you can read it, if not PM me with your email and we can try that way. I can also copy and snail mail the entire manual or if you can find one, they are in most Ford shop manuals up to about '78(I have forgotten when they phased out C4s)Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

Denny idea of threading works great . I brought home a 7/16 tap gave me deep enough thread to hold bolt securely. Quickly fabbed a end for the puller to grab head of bolt and with in a couple minutes it was out .
Ireland i tried the pry and this pump was stuck . I didnt want to bring out anything else since i have no knowledge of getting it back in .
Hoss its not a big block LOL only small hammers for this C4
Some pics of process.
Many Thanks again to everyone

Got lucky and didnt loosen or change the band , after i clean up gasket surface i'll get to putting new one in . I see the little rings do look touchy i will go at them slowly . Vasaline will break down easier then a grease should i use a little of that.

So true after i wrote that my wifes Grandma passed at the great age of 94 . This week has been a busy and stressfull one since tuesday. Been trying to stay at wifes side for comfort but she is on the move trying to stay busy . I guess when things settle down some i'll get to it .
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
