82 square body transmission question
Hello,
My wife bought an 82' Chevy short bed pickup, its been modified! My question is, What Transmission tail shaft? long or short? it has a long shaft and a cobbled looking cross member in it. I hate Cobbled!! any advice or Opinions are appreciated.
Thanks

Hello LarryDawg, good to see you here. I don't really understand the question. Are you saying you want to replace the tailhousing? If it has a long tail now, why do you want to change it? Is that because the cross member is "cobbled"?

I guess my question is which is stock, long tail shaft or short tail shaft?? I am just looking to see what I can do to fix up the Cobbled transmission cross member, I was hoping that it was just the wrong one adapted to it. it has driveshaft and other then funky cross member everything looks normal

I get it now.. I cannot tell you which is stock/original but a local tranny shop an auto parts store or even a wrecking yard should be able to tell you.
Google can be your friend also! But you'll need to know which trans is in it now.
It kinda sounds like someone fitted an overdrive trans maybe???

Do you know what transmission is in it, or do you know what the truck is supposed to have in it? You very well could have a transmission from a van in it that some one modified your truck to get it in there.Ryan

I figured it out, it has the stock crossmember with a tab welded on it to allow the long tail shaft Transmission to be mounted. I'm leaving it for now and after its running and driving ill fix it
