Holley Street Avenger
I need a new carb for my 454 and I think I probablly will go with a Holley 770 Street avenger . It is a 4150 with electric choke vac. secondary's . I did the flow calibration chart on my motor and the 770 is perfect .Has anyone used one of these , and how did it work for you? The motor will turn 6500 R.P.M.'s and it will go on a torker 2 oval port intake.Last edited by 327,JET; 11-25-2004 at 03:39 PM.

Ive got the 770 on my 454 & it works great. But than my 454 never sees the other side of 5000 RPMS. If you plan to take it to 6500 Id use the 870 for sure, infact Id say 870 would be about perfect.
I did jet my 770 up a couple sizes on the primary & also swaped the #25 squirter for a # 3275 GMC C-15 factory 454, automatic, lowered

I ran a 750 CFM Holley on a 454, and it worked fine. It was a hot street motor - 6000 - 6500 RPM, 410 gears, 4-speed trans, full length headers.
Using the formula: RPM x CID x VE/3456, where
CFM = Carb size
RPM = engine rpm
CID = Cubic inch displacement
VE = engine volumetric efficiency (assumed to be .85 for hot street motor)
you get
CFM = 6500 x 454 x .85 /3456 = 725
I don't think a 770 would choke off your motor - but I'll bet you could make an 870 work.Jack

Thank's for the input guy's
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
