Choosing Ignition system for 454 bbc?

Hello, I have two types of ignition systems that I would like to put on my 1973 nova 454, But I dont know witch one to choose or witch one would preform better (MSD or Mallory?) If I go with MSD distributor#85551 I would add the MSD-6AL and Blaster 3 coil. But if I go with MALLORY I would go with the mallory magnetic breakerless distributor part#MAA-5048201 and would add the electronic/breaker point promaster coil allong with mallory Hyfire Vl-AL ignition! Im not sure witch one should I go with? the car is going to be mostly street and some strip action on weekends!! The motor has the usuaL bolt on's witch are edelbrock air gap intake,carb,ETC... Thanks for any suggestions!! If any body has one of these ignition systems please let me know how they perform.Thank you!-Danny.

As long as you have bolt on parts and not bogusly high compression, both systems should do fine. My personaly preference would be the MSD system, but either would do fine. Just be sure to keep everything in time, keep an eye out for shorts/corossion and be SURE to replace the plug wires with those rated for higher voltage. otherwise youll have spaghetti for wires.

    msd or mallory

Either one will be just fine they are both high quality . I have to agree with drg84 ,I also prefer M.S.D. they seem to have a larger selection of support part's than Mallory. You could also go with a set of M.S.D. Super Conductor wires to complement your new ignition.

True both are good ignition setups,if money is a factor M.S.D. is a bit more, but more people trust M.S.D. wich are made in Mexico. I have 454 in a 72 Caprice and run a 6al and a blaster 2 coil, with this setup dont forget to get magnetic suppresion wires, not solid core, again M.S.D. has great spark plug wires.
