Blown 454 Camshaft?
Here I am guys with another dumb question. I am building my 454 with my 671 Deyer blower. I want the right cam. I am just driving this to local night out car shows, no racing, Ok maybe just a few neat red light hole shots. The Question, what cam should I use? I want this engine to sound all out bad ass, but still preform. Got any suggestions, Brand names, lift, duration, ect. This is my retirement project!
Thanks for all the great input you guys have given me!

all cam grinders make cams for blower apps comp cam offers a cam help line. compcams.com
for street use i stay under .600 lift and go with one that has an agressive exshaust profile any thing over a 280 advertised duration will give you a rough idle. More valve overlap the rougher the idle.

I agree with the above post dont go with a cam that has to much overlap or you'll be shooting yourself in the foot by bleeding off the pressure your putting in with the blower. A blower motor dosent need as much lift, duration or overlap to produce power as a NA motor. Dont worry about the lope....the blower whine is impressive enough
Best advice is to contact the cam company who's cam you plan to use and give them all the info about your car..heads/compression/header size and length/weight of car/gearing/trans ect ect and they will be able to suggest the right cam for your parts combination. You also might have them suggest a converter for the trans as well as they can tell you what size converter will work best with the blower and their cam.

I have a 454 in my 87 S-10. I installed a 6-71 blower this winter.I used the 660 center squirters that came with it.I was starving for fuel so i re-jetted to 92 jet size and drilled the plates. Now i have a cracking in my mufflers around 4000 rpm and smell gas.It seems too rich.If i drive it hard and shift at high rpm's its better. Are the 660's ok for the street.Did i over jet.Any help would be great.!!

b2zone, good info so far...I know what you're saying, but as was mentioned, you cant have a nasty lope and a blower too...they just dont go together. The blower will be impressive enough. If you want the other, just build a normally aspirated engine, and cam it with as nasty a cam as you want. I was stuck with that decision a few months ago, and after much research, I decided on a big block stroker, no blower Im doing a 496. I like the sound of that engine better, but you have to go with what you want. Go with the cam company's recommendations. They know best in these cases.
Lovee, you might want to start a new post with your question. Im sure you will get help from someone. You're kinda hijacking this thread the other way.(Said with respect, of course!)When your dreams turn to dust, Vacuum!
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
